The beginning & HTTP rant

Hello! This is the first post of my gemlog! I'm not entirely sure what I would write here, but you'll see when I have something.

I don't think I am that good of a writer so I'll use this as a way to improve my writing skills too. Many of the Gemlogs you see around Gemini space are incredibly well done and are the main reason why I made this capsule in the first place. Another reason is that the web has gotten so incredibly bloated and insecure that you can't even browse stress-free.

I find it so stupid that people attempt to justify putting ludicrous amounts of advertising on their website because they want to "earn from their work".

Maybe if you didn't make having 600 animated buttons the standard, you wouldn't have to spend all that time designing in the first place. Your website doesn't have to be HTML unixporn.

Oh, and speaking of Unix: What happened to the Unix philosophy? Why does something like YouTube have a stories feature? I thought you were a video streaming service, not a social medium.

I hate social media in general. I don't need to be a scientist to predict that at least 50% of internet traffic goes to social media. It does the exact opposite of the Unix philosophy: it does pretty much everything. You cry about your favorite YouTuber being a pedophile, you repost your Reddit feed, and you draw loliporn all in the same place. Oh, and it also fails at the "do it well" part. Your videos will be compressed to death and your rants stopped by character limits.

And I understand that for many things HTTP’s bloat is necessary. I just hope Gemini and HTTP could live alongside each other. Although, to be honest, I highly doubt that being the future.

Either way, I'll cease my rant here. Thank you for reading. This turned into what is essentially a look inside of my mind. I hope you enjoyed it.

Goodbye 👋
